English ‘I want to delete it all, but not now’ is een speelse, conceptuele escape room van mediakunstenaar Roos Groothuizen waarin we onze persoonlijke keuzes verkennen om aan de data-industrie te ontsnappen. Apps, videoplatforms en social media zijn een essentieel onderdeel geworden van ons dagelijks leven. De schaduwzijde hiervan is dat ons online gedrag continu wordt geregistreerd en doorverkocht en dat we eigenlijk geen idee hebben waarvoor we toestemming geven. We hebben allemaal wel eens gedacht om offline te gaan of alternatieven te verkennen, maar wat houdt ons tegen?
In een 60 minuten durende ervaring worden spelers via fysieke en digitale puzzels geconfronteerd met persoonlijke dilemma’s over aspecten als online verslaving, privacy en verantwoordelijkheid. De escape room speelt zich af in de kamer van de vermiste internationale student Rosa Aringa. Als privédetective ga je op zoek naar de antwoorden achter haar vermissing. Door Rosa’s stappen te traceren ontdek je waarom een groot deel van haar kamer geheimzinnig was afgesloten. Is haar vermissing in scène gezet? Wat deed ze online? Van wie waren al die cryptische appjes? En waarom was de deur weg? Door de puzzels op te lossen, word je bewust gemaakt van de keuzes die jou weerhouden om actie te ondernemen en de controle op het internet terug te vinden. Je kunt de escape room digitaal spelen via een livestream body camera en/of fysiek in Tetem.
Het werk ‘I want to delete it all, but not now’ is ontwikkeld door kunstenaar Roos Groothuizen in opdracht van Tetem. Roos onderzoekt onze rechten binnen een samenleving die steeds verder digitaliseert en de wijze waarop wij hier grip op kunnen krijgen. De tentoonstelling is ontwikkeld binnen Tetem’s programmalijn Society 5.1 en het thema Dark Ethics. Tetem onderzoekt daarmee – samen met kunstenaars – de (mis)match tussen mens en technologie en de ethische aspecten en (on)bedoelde consequenties van technologie in het leven van mensen. De titel van de tentoonstelling is gebaseerd op een quote uit het boek ‘Sad by Design’ door Geert Lovink. Zijn analyse naar de schaduwzijde van online platforms vormde de inspiratiebron voor Roos om een opzettelijk eindeloze zoektocht te creëren waarin menselijke verlangens ons tegenhouden.

‘I want to delete it all, but not now’ is a playful, conceptual escape room created by media artist Roos Groothuizen that challenges our personal motives for escaping the data industry. Apps, video platforms and social media have become an essential part of our daily lives. The downside is that our online behavior is continuously being registered and resold and that we basically have no idea what we are giving permission for. We all have thought about going offline or exploring alternatives, what is holding us back?
In a 60-minute experience – by solving physical and digital puzzles – players are challenged to search for the origins of their own digital dilemmas about online addiction, privacy and responsibility. The escape room takes place in the room of the missing international student Rosa Aringa. As a private investigator you get to search for the answers behind her disappearance. By tracing Rosa’s steps, you will learn why most of her room was secretly locked. Was her disappearance staged? What was she doing online? Who owned all those cryptic apps? And why was the door gone? Solving the puzzles will make you aware of your own choices that prevent you from taking action and help you regain control on the internet. You can play the escape room digitally via a livestream body camera and/or physically in Tetem.
The exhibition ‘I want to delete it all, but not now’ is commissioned by Tetem and developed by Roos Groothuizen. Roos is an artist and designer who cares about digital rights and who is fascinated by the unfair distribution of information and how online algorithms systematically discriminate us. The exhibition is developed within Tetem’s program theme Society 5.1 and the theme Dark Ethics. Together with artists, Tetem examines the (mis)match between humans and technology and the ethical aspects and (un)intended consequences of technology in people’s lives. The title of the exhibition is based on a quote from the book ‘Sad by Design’ by Geert Lovink. His analysis on the toxicity of online platforms has inspired Roos to create a deliberately endless quest in which human desires hold us back.
