Kunstenaarscollectief Keiken onderzoekt hoe we in een wereld waar digitale en fysieke ervaringen in elkaar overlopen nieuwe bewustzijnsniveaus en samenlevingsvormen kunnen creëren. Ze nemen het publiek mee in de perspectieven en realiteit van een uitgestrekt metaverse.

Keiken is een samenwerkingspraktijk van Tanya Cruz, Hana Omori en Isabel Ramos. Keiken betekent ‘ervaring’ in het Japans. Het creëren van nieuwe ervaringen is dan ook de kern van de praktijk van Keiken. Met behulp van Extended Reality (XR), films, games en blockchain verbeelden de kunstenaars een metaverse waarin meerdere identiteiten, perspectieven en realiteiten bestaan. In deze wereld zijn tijd en ruimte vloeibaar en is transformatie mogelijk door het samenvoegen van ons biologische en digitale lichaam.

De poëtische film verkent de geboorte van het bewustzijn, de vroege kindertijd en de mogelijkheden van meerdere vormen van bewustzijn in de metaverse. De Virtual Reality installatie stelt deelnemers in staat om te transformeren tot een digitale avatar om zo verschillende gedaantes van zichzelf te ontdekken. Deze full body avatar schept ruimte voor kwetsbaarheid, kracht, speelsheid en transformatie. De draagbare buik maakt de ultrasone geluiden van dieren die met elkaar communiceren beleefbaar en activeert empathie. ‘Morphogenic Angels and Pink Moonrock Cries’ nodigt uit om anders te kijken naar de manier waarop we met elkaar samenleven in een wereld waarin het fysieke en virtuele steeds meer in elkaar opgaan.

De tentoonstelling van Keiken sluit aan bij Tetem’s programmalijn Futures Literacy. Futures Literacy gaat over de vaardigheid die de mens in staat stelt te anticiperen op meerdere mogelijke toekomsten. De installatie van Keiken is ontwikkeld in samenwerking met kennispartners uit Twente, Londen en Berlijn. Tijdens een ontwikkelweek afgelopen januari heeft Keiken met hulp van onze partners – Universiteit Twente, BMS Lab, Saxion en Saxion XR Lab – het onderzoek op het gebied van mixed reality, haptische technologieën, 3D printing en robotica kunnen verbreden en verdiepen. Muziek en sound design zijn gemaakt door wavesovspace en CGI in samenwerking met Clifford Sage.

De tentoonstelling van Keiken was van 8 t/m 11 september onderdeel van GOGBOT festival in Enschede. De film die Keiken voor de tentoonstelling heeft ontwikkeld wordt tot eind oktober vertoond op het ARKO Art & Tech Festival in Seoul, Zuid-Korea.

In the exhibition ‘Morphogenic Angels and Pink Moonrock Cries’, Keiken collective simulates new structures of existence and explores how society’s imposed worlds of experience governs the way we feel, think and perceive. The exhibition welcomes participants inside a speculative future and a boundless metaverse.

Keiken is an artist collective, co-founded by Tanya Cruz, Hana Omori and Isabel Ramos. Keiken means “experience” in Japanese; the lived experience being at the core of their practice. They are collaboratively building and imagining a metaverse to simulate new structures and ways of existing and to test-drive possible futures. Through Extended Reality (XR), films, games and blockchain, the artists create speculative worlds in which multiple identities, perspectives and realities exist. In this world, time and space are fluid and transformation is possible through the merging of our biological and digital bodies.

The poetic film explores the birth of consciousness, early childhood and the possibilities of multiple consciousnesses in the metaverse. The Virtual Reality installation allows participants to transform into a digital avatar and discover different iterations of themselves. This full body avatar creates space for vulnerability, strength, playfulness and transformation. The wearable belly activates visceral and emotional reactions through vibrations on the body and the ultrasounds of animals communicating with each other. ‘Morphogenic Angels and Pink Moonrock Cries’ invites us to look differently at the way we live together in a world where the physical and virtual are increasingly merged.

Keiken’s exhibition connects to Tetem’s program theme Futures Literacy, a skill that enables people to anticipate multiple possible futures. Keiken’s installation is developed in collaboration with knowledge partners from Twente, London and Berlin. During a development week last January, Keiken was able to broaden and deepen their research in the areas of mixed reality, haptic technologies, 3D printing and robotics with the help of our partners University of Twente, BMS Lab, Saxion and Saxion XR Lab. Music and sound design is created by wavesovspace and CGI in collaboration with Clifford Sage.
