Op 27 oktober vindt in Tetem een Open Studio plaats waar kunstenaars Valentina Gal, Diana Gheorghiu en Sonia Mangiapane inzicht geven in het creatieve proces en de concepten achter het werk dat ze ontwikkelen voor de SprintExpo ‘If it fools you, it is not fake’. De tentoonstelling onderzoekt hoe meerstemmigheid een passende plek kan krijgen in de huidige, op technologie georiënteerde samenleving en hoe ruimte kan worden geboden aan degenen die doorgaans worden uitgesloten van dominante normatieve verhalen. Kan meerstemmigheid bijdragen aan inclusiviteit en de diversiteit van de samenleving of is het een utopisch ideaal en dus onbereikbaar? Je bent van harte welkom tussen 15.00 en 16.30 uur om langs te komen in Tetem of een tijdslot te boeken om de Open Studio online te bezoeken via onze op afstand bestuurbare robot.
Valentina Gal onderzoekt hoe de mensheid zich kan positioneren in een tijd en wereld waarin het steeds moeilijker wordt om te bepalen wat ‘echt’ is. Terwijl wereldleiders elkaar hacken en mensen zichzelf belachelijke normen stellen bij het nastreven van sociale media-glorie, zet Valentina vraagtekens bij de essentie van het hyperrealisme waarin we terecht zijn gekomen. Ze doet dit door meeslepende video-installaties te bouwen die heen en weer schommelen tussen alledaagse feiten en de verstoorde hyperrealiteit van de digitale wereld.
Diana Gheorghiu gebruikt computer gegenereerde personages om onderwerpen als zelfzorg, nieuwe voeding en de welzijnsindustrie te verkennen. Het werk van Diana volgt op haar onderzoek naar online communities die een gezonde levensstijl promoten. De personages zijn verbeeld als statische afbeeldingen, video’s en installaties die op een afstandelijke en misvormde manier zelfzorg uitoefenen.
Sonia Mangiapane is een foto- en mediakunstenaar die werkt met verschillende technieken en processen die voornamelijk ontstaan door het gebruik van licht. De camera zelf speelt hierin een bescheiden rol. Met behulp van camera gebaseerde en camera loze methoden produceert Sonia stilstaande en bewegende beelden die betrekking hebben op de reis, plaats en noties van tijd.
De Open Studio is onderdeel van de SprintExpo ‘If it fools you, it is not fake’. Kunstenaars werken in een kort en intensief traject van enkele maanden aan de realisatie van nieuw werk. Klik hier om meer te lezen over de nieuwe werken en de expositie.
On 27 October, an Open Studio will take place at Tetem where artists Valentina Gal, Diana Gheorghiu and Sonia Mangiapane give an insight into their creative process and the concepts behind the works they are developing for the upcoming SprintExpo ‘If it fools you, it is not fake’. The exhibition explores how polyvocality can find a suitable place in today’s technology-oriented society and how agency can be given to those typically excluded from dominant normative narratives. Can polyvocality contribute to the social inclusivity and the diversity of society or is it an utopian ideal and therefore unattainable? You’re welcome to come visit in person between 15.00 and 16.30 at Tetem or online via a remote controlled robot through timeslots.
Valentina Gal investigates how humanity can position itself in a time and world where it is becoming harder to determine what is real. While world leaders hack one another and people set themselves ridiculous standards in the pursuit of social media glory, Valentina questions the essence of the hyperrealism we have gotten ourselves into by building immersive video-installations that oscillate between everyday fact and the disturbed hyperreality of the digital world.
Diana Gheorghiu uses computer-generated characters to explore the topics of self-care, new food and the wellness industry. Her work follows on from her research into online communities that promote healthy lifestyles. Diana’s characters are framed within static images, videos and installations that practice self-care in a detached and distorted manner. Their dissociated selves illustrate a form of being who gave in to regimes of control in the face of an uncertain world.
Sonia Mangiapane is a photomedia artist working with media and processes defined primarily by their use of light, as opposed to the exclusive use of the camera. Employing a range of camera-based and cameraless methods she produces still and moving image works exploring concepts relating to journey, place and notions of time.
